Allred, husband of the late Adell Barnwell Allred, died at his home Tuesday, July 13, 1999 after several weeks failing health. Born in Alamance County, N.C., he was a son of the late Lawrence W. and Jessie May Rudd Allred. He was formerly employed with ChadbournGotham Hosiery Mill in Charlotte and other textile firms for over 30 years as a textile machinery technician in full fashion hosiery. He was a member of the Alamance Rescue Unit, where he served as vice president and in other offices over a period of 16 years.

He was a charter member of the Alamance County Sheriff Auxiliary Dept. and was chief for many years. He retired from the Alamance County Emergency Medical Service as a crew chief in 1982. He served during World War II as a pilot for the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific with several decorations for meritorious service.

He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his daughter and sonin-law, Vickie and Herbert Davidson of Rocky Mount, N.C.; son and daughter-inlaw, Billy Gordon and Sandra Woodell Allred; sisters, Una Mae Bristoe of Burlington, N.C., Jeanette Idol of Mauldin, Lucille Kepley of Burlington; brother, Earl Allred Burlington; halfbrother, Silas Brooks of Burlington; grandchildren, C. Scott Allred, Abram child, Davidson, Cassidy Daniel Allred; Davidson; extended great family, Adelle Qualls, Kenneth and Karen Dixon, Marshall Qualls, all of Graham, N.C. Avery died Friday, July 9, 1999 in Des Moines. The body was cremated. Born in St. Louis, he was a son of the late Herman A. and Patricia Cissie Collier Avery.

He moved with his family to Sumter in 1962. A graduate of the U.S.C School of Journalism, he worked as a freelance photographer and served as editor of the News and Herald, Winnsboro, from 1979-1982, and then as the editor of the Herald-Independent, Winnsboro. He moved to Des Moines in 1990. He attended St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, West Des Moines and former member of St.

John's Episcopal Church, Winnsboro. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Goff Avery; brother, Dennis Avery of Mt. Pleasant. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, attended U.S.C., and graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. LaBorde served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon. He was in private practice as a General Practitioner, practiced at the U.S.C.

Health Center, and was most recently employed with the South Carolina Vocational Determination Division. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He was also a member of Forest Lake Club, the Palmetto Club, the Tarantella, and the Camellia Ball. Neal, a retired general surgeon, died Monday, July 12, 1999 at Presbyterian Hospital. Born May 2, 1916 in Mclver, N.C., he was a son of the late Thomas Stephen and Ida Williamson Neal. He graduated from Davidson College and the Medical College of Virginia, School of Medicine. He did his internship at Bowman Gray Hospital in WinstonSalem, N.C. and his residency at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, where he was Chief Resident of Surgery.

During World War II, Dr. Neal served as a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a squadron surgeon. He participated in the Normandy invasion, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day, did reconnaissance across France and Germany, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star for gallantry in action, seven combat ribbons, the French Croix de Guerre, and five combat stars.

Dr. Neal practiced surgery in Charlotte until retiring in 1986. He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Southeastern Surgical Congress. A longtime member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Dr. Neal was also a member of the N.C.

Medical Society, the N.C. Association of Physicians and Surgeons, the Piedmont Club of Charlotte, and the Charlotte Country Club. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Zaida Keim Neal; sons and daughters-inlaw, R. Douglas and Elizabeth P. Neal Jr.

of Columbia, Stephen W. and Phyllis W. Neal of Charlotte; daughters and sonsin-law, Linda Neal and Gordon H. Kolb of New Orleans, Susan Neal and Andy D. Antonishak of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jennifer, Mary Douglas and Rebecca Neal of Columbia, and Gordon Kolb Jr.
