Is the CSB Bible translation accurate? ›

The CSB is a highly accurate preaching text, translated directly from the best available Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic source texts into English by biblical scholars who affirm the authority of Scripture as the inerrant Word of God; its source texts are the standard used by scholars and seminaries today.

Backgrounds represented include Southern Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, conservative Anglican, and non-denominational Evangelical churches. Ongoing translation decisions are governed by the ten member CSB Translation Oversight Committee, co-chaired by Thomas R. Schreiner and David L.

For comparison: the ESV is translated at about a 10th grade reading level. The CSB is at 7th grade reading level. The CSB just uses plainer language. So writing and especially preaching from the CSB demands less heavy lifting from the audience in grasping the text.

The CSB is an accurate translation

Very frequently, its rendering of a particular word or phrase was exactly how BDAG, the standard Greek-English lexicon, defined that word or phrase. The CSB is accurate, too—maybe even a bit more accurate than the NIV.

The New American Standard Bible is a literal translation from the original texts, well suited to study because of its accurate rendering of the source texts. It follows the style of the King James Version but uses modern English for words that have fallen out of use or changed their meanings.

Keeping that trans-denominational focus, the revision and oversight committee of the CSB is comprised of top biblical scholars from a variety of conservative, evangelical denominations, including Southern Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, conservative Anglican, and non-denominational Bible churches.

No single English translation will ever represent the original biblical languages perfectly. Why? In part because the Bible's ancient languages do not function like English. A word in Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic might not have an exact English word to match.

Research shows the CSB is both highly literal to the original languages and highly readable, achieving an optimal blend of the two.

The translation is usually referred to as the "New JPS version", abbreviated NJPS (it has also been called the "New Jewish Version" or NJV). The translators of the New JPS version were experts in both traditional Jewish exegesis of the Bible and modern biblical scholarship.
